Playing the piano should be like a walk in a garden of delights - not an obstacle course

Heli Ignatius-Fleet

I am Heli Ignatius-Fleet, a pianist and a teacher with a wealth of experience; in my central Cambridge piano studio I deliver inspiring and productive lessons for pianists ranging from beginners to diploma standard musicians. The learning is a fulfilling process: an inspired pupil will always progress!

The piano is my passion: I am making constant discoveries as a performing pianist. I am equally passionate about teaching. Most of my work is on advanced level, but that is by no means the only teaching I do. It is fascinating to see beginners progress and get hooked on piano playing! The success of my pupils is based on the progress plans we make together, and regular evaluations of outcomes. Many of my younger pupils reach diploma level before they leave school, and the Associate and Licentiate Diplomas are indeed at the centre of my teaching.

While I am proud of my pupils’ competition successes, I feel that exams and competitive festivals are not the only goals. I provide regular performing opportunities for my pupils, including adults.
